On October 18, 2008, McCovey Cove will be the site of the fourth annual Esurance ICER AIR, an action sports, music and lifestyle event featuring the world’s best Olympic and X Games skiers and snowboarders. The event will also feature freestyle motocross, skate, BMX, headliner music acts, interactive exhibits and a beer garden.
David Ny of Scandinavian Shaper along with his team will be returning to Esurance ICER AIR this year to build an even bigger and better ski and snowboard jump. This year’s jump will rise an additional eight feet in height over last year’s, reaching over 11 stories, and will extend and additional 16 feet in length, allowing for a longer jump and longer run-out. The jump and run-out will be covered with nearly 200 tons of snow.
ICER announces an innovative new jump, never before seen in the United States, for this year’s 2008 big air ski and snowboard contest. For the next evolution of Esurance ICER AIR, skiers and snowboarders will be launched using a catapult system developed in Finland by Soul Productions. The catapult will rocket the athletes down a 120 foot- long track and launch them 30 feet in the air, at distances of up to 70 feet onto a corner, or hip landing.
The line-up for this year’s Snowboard competition includes: Andreas Wiig, Chas Guldemond, Hampus Mosesson, Antti Autti, Chris Soerman, Torstein Horgmo, Tim Humpreys, Scotty Lago, Wyatt Caldwell, Ian Thorley.
The following performers are slated to play at Esurance ICER AIR 2008: The Cool Kids, K’Naan,3OH!3, Dj Spider.
