In March this year Terie Haakonsen and The Artic Challenge organizers have announced decision of leaving previous place Holmenkollen and searching for something else. This decision was followed by plans of rebuilding shi-jump so it complies with new standards, in order to host World Championship in 2011.
However, thought about hosting such prestige snowboard event outside Norway was unacceptable. And not only for Henning’s Anderson’s TAC CEO but for local comptrollers as well. As Henning used to say: our trump always was and will be ability to pull of quantity of viewers comparable to ski-jumping ore football audience. So it seems that’s what is the most important in sport: audience. No fans no events!
Common actions and agreement of TAC, developers and local authorities effected with project that in 2010 will let Arctic Challenge to come back on ski-jump in Holmenkollen. Apart rebuilding the ski-jump there are plans to build ‘playground?’ for snowboarders. Everything will be design in order to host competitors in Halfpipe, Slopestyle and of course Quarter. And the investment itself will absorb 13 million Euro…
This year Arctic Challenge will take place on smaller jump in Oslo - Linderudkollen and Slopestyle and Halfpipe in Tryvann Vinterpark. Now we can see what potential is hidden in our discipline and how important it is… It’s a shame that in our country the authorities doesn’t give a sh**.
